this post is a little behind, but none the less, worth sharing.  my sadness has subsided about the cabin in colorado, though- out of sight out of mind. i have been busy hanging with my brother and his family, playing nanny, and playing more nanny. kids will get your mind off anything.  rain is a common denominator in my life these days, since i left colorado, and now being in washington. it is incredibly cozy here right now, i will share more on that later.

first, let’s talk about my trip through yellowstone. it was a very gloomy and rainy day. i arrived at shoshone lodge and resort in the evening in time to enjoy the brisk evening and have a glass of wine in front of the cabin. it was so quiet and peaceful, it was strange to not hear a river running. i choose this lodging because we stayed here as a family when i was a kid.  my parents always talk about it and i thought it would be fun to check it out. it was me and all the old folks, but that is to be expected this time of year.  the place was clean and cozy. though, i didn’t eat at the restaurant, the menu was hearty and home cooked.

i woke up early and started my trek into the park. i had wylie with me, so i couldn’t plan any hikes, but it was raining anyway. within my first 15 minutes in the park i saw cars pulled over on the side of the road, cameras out- gawking. i got out and to my surprise- a bear. she was far away, and it was hard to get a photo with the iphone, but i saw her. i waited forever, even prepared, in colorado for bears. they never came. it was an off year, obviously- being they had a 1000 year flood, and my neighbors were shocked the bears never came. i told them i would end up seeing one in yellowstone, and i did! the buffalo were everywhere too. one even walked directly in front of my car. it was pretty awesome.

i entered the park through the east gate and took the southern route to old faithful. i remember this from my childhood, but of course when i showed up, she had just gone off and everyone was returning to their cars. we drove a little more and found some other geysers and they were the color of heaven. from there we headed north where the terrain changes into waterfalls and lakes with all these geysers spewing all around. the land is so diverse. i have been meaning to do a little more reading up on the evolution of this land, it is hard to read the map when your passenger is a dog. i simply enjoyed the beauty and the chance to be there.

i ended at mammoth hot springs. i didn’t get to walk all the way up because wylie at this point was totally stressed that i kept getting in and out of the car. so, i choose a closer path and to my surprise, it was my favorite part of the trip. it was the most beautiful natural element i have ever seen. as if it wasn’t even real.

i thought i would try something a little different along with my travel posts. being that i can’t do much crafty or food posting, how about some of my favorite things of the moment. inspired by each trip i go on, a mood board of wants and must haves! here goes the first one.

i have been meaning to do a colorado post. when i came back from LA, everything was green and blooming! i was ecstatic and have been since. it smells like home to me, like summer days growing up in indiana. then there is the mountain air and  that smell of a pine tree under the sun’s heat intoxicates me. i find myself inhaling these huge deep breaths. i love it.

i leave again tomorrow for a work trip. i admit i am a little anxious about traveling, having just gotten back, and i hate leaving my boy wylie, not to mention my battle with flying anxiety! then i come back and its more work here, then a few days off. and then on and on until the end of july really. just about that time, i will have to start really considering my next move. and i have absolutely no clue what it will be. i just can’t even talk about it.

i do like being busy, but when i first got back from the last trip, i really took the time to appreciate my surroundings and the warm weather…as you can tell with all my feet photos relaxing by the river! it has been such a treat. new friends, bonfires and bbq’s at neighbor’s houses, flowers blooming. i am still waiting for a good thunderstorm though! i miss those.

IMG_8463we all know i love a good party. any excuse to get crafty and make my friends feel loved. when larissa asked me to be in her wedding, i was more than flattered and honored. i love this girl so much. we were invited to park city, utah for a weekend of hiking, yoga, and indulging!

larissa’s maid/matron of honor, ally,  planned a weekend to the T full of larissa’s favorite activities. ally also openly welcomed me doing a little sun and glory craftiness. together we collaborated on a bachelorette kit, dinner, and decor. ally made up an itinerary for the weekend and was so good at organizing all of us ladies  getting us from one place to the next. that is a tough job. we even illegally smuggled wylie into the house. even if we did have to hide out in the car while the manager came to the property. we just couldn’t get off that easily, but wylie was the perfect little addition for the weekend.

i missed thursday night, but friday morning we did some yoga lead by leslie (larissa and leslie are both instructors). i have not done pigeon pose in so long that my hips were screaming. ( i have since started up yoga again, what a great way to be inspired!). after yoga we hit up a hike that we aren’t exactly sure was a hike, but more of walking around in the wilderness and campgrounds of this beautiful area. we still walked for a few hours and had a lovely gloomy afternoon. followed up by taking the tram up to the st regis in deer valley for drinks. park city was empty while we were there, it is shoulder season, the place felt like it was just ours.  the manager at st regis kindly let us bring wylie into the restaurant even though they don’t really allow dogs, apparently it is called “bark city” not just park city. the food and wine director also gave us some great hikes to hit up for the following day. he kind of became our new best friend.

the next hike was gloomy at times, sunny at times, rainy at times. i was exhausted after the previous day of drinking prosecco in the hot tub to only be hungover by the time we made it to dinner. i have never been a good day drinker.

i wouldn’t say we got lost exactly on this hike, we just weren’t sure where we were headed. we did a huge loop in the mountains, probably 7 or so miles. even though i thought i was going to die, it was so incredibly worth it.

that evening we all pitched in on a sun and glory feast. grilled steaks, kale salad, and sweet potato fries with blue cheese. not to mention the prosicutto/mozzarella/melon skewers and fondue and smores for dessert. the night was complete with a whiskey bar and a dance party.

i wanted to make the table special. i bought some succulents while i was in LA and  wrapped them in brown paper. the table runner was the same brown paper adorned with air plants, plastic horses, and seed starters on the plates.

i made a pinterest board a while back and ally and i both loved the idea of a bachelorette box. i tend to go overboard with ideas and have hard time narrowing down the things i should and shouldn’t put in these things. i bought some canteens and painted my beloved triangle on them. i also painted sticks, and made sun and glory keychains. i  threw in granola bars, mini whiskey’s, coconut water, sunscreen, rock candy, blistex, a bandana, and a little mini white cowboy hat that looks like a white blob in the photo. everyone had  blast with it.

we also did a photo shoot. american flag and all…see the next post!IMG_7851IMG_7878PicMonkey CollagehdhfIMG_8413PicMonkey Collagegsr

first off, thanks to those whom participated in the giveaway! the prize went to marissa of marissamoondaughter. i also wanted to thank everyone for their lovely comments! i am sorry i have been a bad blogger and have not replied. please know that i do read every one of them and am so grateful for all my readers!

it is amazing how much i go in and out of missing LA and loving it here. last week we had two feet of snow. even though it is beautiful, i was so sick of being stuck inside i could scream. i was literally trapped for a few days  because i couldn’t get my car out of the driveway. the photos below don’t even do it justice! after a taste of spring in LA, this snowy, gloomy, weather had me confused and had me missing my old life. it is hard to change, it is hard to let go, i am now realizing this. i suppose this was the point of it all though, to change.  luckily, i get to fill my craving for my old ways when i leave in a few days to road trip it back to sunny california to do a job. i am super grateful to get to play in my old city and hang out with my friends i miss so…and for a few weeks!!!

over the past weekend the snow started to melt into wet sticky mud and the sun started to show his self again. wylie and i did a little exploring of our country/mountain neighborhood and by monday and tuesday, we had snow again. uh, that was enough to almost make me go nuts. wednesday, the white fields finally started to disappear and by yesterday i started to get excited again about what is to come ! wylie and i went on a little hike into the hills outside the front door and we sat by the river just relaxing. i haven’ been able to do that without shivering! i realized, the summer here is going to be breathtaking.  i think the snowy, winter seasons make you appreciate the beautiful weather even more. it’s not that we take it for granted in LA, it’s just so normal to have  a beautiful day you don’t know any different after a while. but here, here the land comes alive again. your mind and body rejoice, and the sun feels like you have been given a golden warm gift. the grass is turning green, the buds are slowly showing their strength. the rhubarab is popping up in the garden. the sounds of the river feel like a vacation on the beach. by the time i get back in 3 weeks, i can only imagine this place is going to be a whole new world and ecosystem.

it’s true, somedays i want to crawl back to my old life. some days, i can’t believe this adventure i get to take. i feel torn between loving the wilderness and the peace, but i crave culture and eccentricity! yet still, i find myself wanting more, i find myself envious of others. these are just some of the things i am learning about myself, some of the things i want and need to change. i am not sure what path to take in the next few months. hopefully, working and being in LA for a few weeks will bring me some clarity. i am an over analyzer, if they gave awards out for such, i could most definitley win won. i sometimes feel a peace here that i havent felt in years. sometimes i feel i might just be a little to eclectic for a middle america lifestyle. maybe i am having a mid-life crisis- but a beautiful one.

wylie and i found the head, one claw, and feathers of a flickr bird in the front yard. something devoured this bird. i clearly saved it all.

taking a hike on the ranch’s land. a little bit of trespassing, but what glorious views. i have never walked this path before, and it was awesome!  also, the horses are horsin around when it comes to feeding time. except the one little guy in the back. he seemed a little mad at everyone else. IMG_3229 IMG_2997

the elk are everywhere.

IMG_5845 it is snowing today here in my wilderness escape. a lot. i was excited and prepared for the snow on thursday, which was nothing compared to the snow we are getting now . i am sure the rest of the population in the area isn’t as in much awe as me, but i couldn’t believe how much snow there actually was until i started walking in it an hour ago.

i admit i have been encountered a bit of the blues. literally, seconds after i blasted out the new lookbook and shop product, i started feeling down. i have been so focused and so busy the past few weeks, almost month, that once i was finished with the whole thing, i didn’t know what to do with myself and frankly, i still don’t. i have been a lazy bum all weekend and probably will be the rest of the day. i am missing my friends and family more than i can describe right now. it’s times like these i am ready to run back to LA or Portland or Chicago or  anywhere where i feel i fit in.

but… then there is this beautiful winter wonderland outside my front door today. how can i not stop and appreciate it? when it snowed on thursday, i took wylie boy for a walk around the hood. (there are a few photos at the end of the post from instagram- you can also see the difference in the amount of snow from today.) he made a friend with one of the horses at the ranch. it was possibly one of the sweetest things i have ever witnessed. the horse stuck his head out and wylie went in for a sniff. he practically started dancing in circles. it made my heart melt and the next day the snow did too. the thing about colorado is it can snow one day and the next it is 50 degrees and sunny. it was melting off the house by friday afternoon as if it were raining. last night it started snowing again and it hasn’t stopped since. seems it will continue the rest of the day. it is always in the moments when i walk around the property that i get rejuvenated about this adventure i am in. wylie boy had a blast running around and i started to see the bigger picture again, just from a simple walk in the snow. i only wish, i was sharing it with someone.

i love how white the light is inside the house.i love how much wylie loves running around in it. i love the way it neatly piles up on a banister or a lawn chair. i love how it can give you the excuse to be completely lazy.  i love the silence outside.

i wish i could record the sound of snow. it is so peaceful.

well, guys. i did it. i moved. although, sometimes i feel like i may just be on one of my weekend adventures, day by day i slowly start realizing this is my new home. especially, since all my shit is in this house. (which, will be posted about as soon as it all comes together!) i am living in a mix of country and suburbia…just more on the country side. i am not a huge fan of strip malls and fast food, but it seems that is to be my life for a bit. besides my friends, good restaurants seem to be my biggest grievance yet. it is going to take some research and work to find the good places, probably traveling to denver and boulder to find it. even then, i am not fully convinced yet. i am a food snob. although, a starbucks drive thru aint half bad!  what i can say though, is that it is beautiful here. the people are NICE, the men are handsome. did i mention the people are nice? because they are! hopefully, we can stay tuned for the “the men are handsome” part! wink wink!

sure, there have already been a few moments where i want to completely panic when i start to get the slightest bit lonely. i have to talk myself out of it and remember why i did this, and try to concentrate on the projects ahead. thank god for the two friends i do have here! my friend natalie came up for the day yesterday and we took a little walk in the “neighborhood”. i live next door to a saddle ranch. literally, next door. i can see the horses from my living room. i caught wylie shaking to the bone the other day when he heard them naying! poor guy, he is such a street dog.  it really hasn’t been that cold yet, but just enough to run the fireplace …everyday.  i open my back door, when the fireplace gets a little too hot,  to hear rushing water from the river. the leaves are crunchy, the coyotes are howling, and the coziness of it all is not forsaken.

we took a walk down the road which apparently, becomes private property once the road turns into gravel. we ran into the owner of the ranch no our way back, and she sure seems to run a tight ship! oops! so,basically the photos above are trespassing photos. it was worth it though, to see what is just down the road and up the hill. this rustic pasture and stable just sitting up there wanting to be gawked at. sometimes, the best ideas come from turning that corner or going over that hill.

there are so many beautiful and rustic things around the property. below are photos from around my yard and road. i can only imagine what this place looks like in the spring, or when it SNOWS!!!!

there are so many things i can’t wait to explore in the area and share with you all. there are many adventures ahead, much reflection, and new beginnings.
